The Nineveh Plains is an integral part of Iraq and our ancestral homeland Assyria. The big question right now is what will become of Iraq if the North is annexed to the Kurds? It is a fact that the west has been trying to divide Iraq since they made up the lies that said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and in this way invaded the country. I am curious, after they try to create Kur-stan will the Sunnis and the Shia also annex into their own country? I once heard that the Shia want to call their state Somar but I’m not sure about that. More likely it will be called Shiaastan. Is this what is happening? Has the entire world, the United Nations, the Vatican, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Israel, and actually everyone conspired against the innocent Assyrians?
I feel mortified at the blindness of the human race and the non-reaction of the world community in regards to what is happening to the Assyrians in Iraq and all over the world. We are a “minority” with a hushed voice because we as Assyrians have been slaughtered for hundreds of years mostly because of our ancient identity and also because we are ancient Christians. Is this our fault because we were unable to defend ourselves successfully and then establish ourselves effectively?
When I was in university and used to say that North of Iraq is Assyria people would say to me, “It is not time to create new countries rather the world should become one.” The thing though is Assyria is not a new country. It exists still in the towns and villages of the Assyrian people in the Nineveh Plains and it has for thousands of years. What I can’t assure though is what will happen to the ancient Assyrian spirit in the hearts of the Assyrian people under the weight of the Kurdish invaders who throughout history were mass murderers of the Assyrians. I am sad to say that the entire world is allowing a tribe, which has bullied the Assyrians for generations, to take over the Assyrian heartland and control desired areas. What is the difference between the Kurds and ISIS? Isn’t it obvious now to everyone that the Kurds used ISIS so that they could grab more Assyrian land and declare themselves as heroes when in reality they are the biggest stealers?
What will happen to Assyrian nationalism if Kur-stan is created? Will it continue to be nurtured? I can already see what will happen. The Kurds will destroy the spirit of our simple Assyrian people. They want to rise and leave no traces of the true history that came before. They have already done that for years. Look at what they teach in their history books about the Assyrians. They have even brainwashed some of the Assyrian people who in the past have declared that this Kur-stan region actually exists. To me it has never existed because it is an illegitimate unlawful region. They want to be a state, a nation, and a new melting pot, but what they are trying to do is a crime. It is a crime against humanity to turn Assyria into Kur-stan and everyone who is supporting this unlawful dangerous invented identity will see the harsh realities after. It is also a crime to call Assyrians Kurdish Christians because inevitably that is all they will be allowed to be in Kur-stan.
A Kurdish state will not stabilize the Middle East. A Kurdish state will be a thorn in the side of the Assyrians and the Assyrian nationalism and ideology which we are trying to revive. A Kurdish state will mean mocking the Assyrian people who have suffered for so long and telling them that they do not matter. Here is yet another way the world does not want to validate the Assyrian identity because it is a gem, something beautiful and real that makes people truly alive and living in this matrix called Earth.
How can the world even care though what is happening to the Assyrian people? People are busy creating a “life” for themselves. Have you ever been on Instagram? Everyone is following their favourite celebrities in the world. What especially amazes me about Instagram is how popular makeup tutorials are which teach women about how they should do their makeup with a hundred new products, creams, and powders. These young girls need a extra part time job just to be able to buy the makeup that is being promoted and this is happening all over the world. Even girls with hijabs from Dubai are making these videos and the idea and love of “beauty” is at its all-time peak because of social media. Everyone wants to be beautiful but people are realizing that their lives are empty. There is something missing.
Even Kylie Jenner the half-sister of Kim Kardashian dreams of living on a farm! I think what she has stated is very profound. I would like to tell you all about a farm land called Assyria! The Assyrians would agree about farming for this was the beginnings of our nation and this is part of our identity and psychological makeup.
An interesting side note. Have you ever heard of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave which was presented in his work Republic to compare people who see truth and those who cannot see truth. Plato tells Socrates to describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them, and give names to these shadows. The shadows are the prisoners' reality.
Socrates explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not reality at all, for he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the manufactured reality that is the shadows seen by the prisoners.
The inmates of this place do not even desire to leave their prison; for they know no better life. The prisoners manage to break their bonds one day, and discover that their reality was not what they thought it was. They discovered the sun, which Plato uses as an analogy for the fire that man cannot see behind.
Kur-stan is shadows the prisoners of the world are seeing. They are trying to create something but they do not know what they are doing and what they are destroying. I include here some of the simple Assyrians living in the North of Iraq right now. The Assyrians are hostages in their own homeland. The Assyrian people supporting the Kurds do not see the truth only the shadows. They are not facing the sun and therefore they cannot see the light. They are in chains. They think by siding with those who have more power they will be given happiness and freedom. This is not the case. When you give up on your identity, your core, and the truth how can you ever be happy? How can your children be happy? How can your grandchildren be happy? Unless they completely forget who they are, enjoy this mistake and fake identity called Kur-stan, and like being in chains...
I ask you my friends, “What good is to gain the world and lose yourself.” Our self is Assyria not Kur-stan because we are and always will be Assyrians and the descendants of the ancient Assyrians.
