The term psychology generally means the study of the human mind and its functions. We have learned that as human beings we can change our mind and hence our life if we try. We can always develop our consciousness. This is part of our universal God given strength of mind. We have will power and we can use it! Jeffrey Kluger who is a senior writer at Time Magazine and author of nine books on various topics said, “Indeed, the best way to think of willpower is not as some shapeless behavioural trait but as a sort of psychic muscle, one that can atrophy or grow stronger depending on how it's used” . We must use this muscle just like we are supposed to be developing our bodily physique and also our soul. A lot of times we hear the sentence in psychology, “Use it or lose it.” This could be true in regards to determination as well.
We have to take care of ourselves and our psychology in life but it is inevitable that we will also have to take care of others as well. So, we must be physically, mentally, and spiritually fit for this responsibility, or else we will not be able to help anyone wholly. When we are balanced in such a way and happy we can spread cheerfulness and love to all those around us. This is important in a world where sometimes it is rare to see individuals fully content and joyful. We do not have to be wealthy to be pleased in life. Many are satisfied to live a humble life and like it is said in the prayer Our Father “give us this day our daily bread.” I personally do not even own a car!
Self-confidence is also important and this we must cultivate. When we are developing in life sometimes it is difficult to connect to this type of assurance. I remember grade school, being an athlete on various sports teams, having a rock hard body, and a great personality, yet still feeling like I did not fit in with my peer group and always feeling different. I recollect that time fondly but it would have been great when growing up to have been more content with myself. I like to remind everyone no matter age to always remember the universe loves you and you are a very special person that is here on earth to grow in consciousness, be of service, and also enjoy life. Not many people said such words to me while growing up and that is why I believe they are important to say.
Being of Service on Earth requires us to pull others up with us as we are also helping ourselves grow as human beings. I always believed that we are all at different levels of spirituality. Not all souls are as advanced as others but one thing that is important and to the benefit of all soul levels is being healthy. We have to be here on Earth in order to do the work we were sent to do. If we are not healthy how can we help anyone? I say this to myself often as I also struggle with this issue.
Eating a balanced diet with less sugar, fat, and empty calories is to our benefit. We should avoid processed food as much as possible. Visiting the farmers market and eating foods that are in season is advantageous. When we eat more vegetables and fresh colourful food and incorporate them into our meals we will love them. They really can be very delicious! My favourite vegetarian dish is an Assyrian dish from my culture called Dolma which is grape leaves stuffed with rice, parsley, tomatoes, onion, peppers, garlic, lemon, olive oil, and spices. I have read that many people who achieve a high level of consciousness become vegetarians and it is something I aspire to be. Drinking plenty of water is also important to stay hydrated.
As we are on our health journey imagining our ultimate self and trying to connect to it is favourable. Wherever we may live finding a place to take walks with a good friend or family outside in nature will revitalize our spirit. Remember no matter where we are at in our health journey we are all beautiful. Every being the good God made is wonderful and everyone who has a good heart is the loveliest person in the world.
One issue I see the world struggling with immensely right now is that we must continue to grow in spirituality regardless of what religion we are born into. One time I went to an Indian psychic and he asked me, “What religious tradition do you follow.” I replied to him, “All of them.” I almost saw him jump from his seat for he was not used to hearing such a comment. This was seven years ago, but I have believed this for a long time. I believe in Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Inanna, Confucius, Mary the mother of Jesus, Kuthumi, and many many others. Many of these beings were born into various “religions” on Earth but they even transcended those religions! How absurd to think that only one religion is the right path for all to follow. The truth is that there are many pathways to God. When thinking that one religion is the only route to God that means there should also be one language and culture in the world inevitably and maybe even sadly one race right? This is wrong on so many levels but the behaviour of many nations today seems as if this is their belief and ideology. For example the Kurdish government right now is trying to steal the North of Iraq which is Assyria and claim the land and call it "Kurdistan." This region of the world has always been Assyrian and my people are the indigenous people of this land. We need the world community to stand with the Assyrians and let the Kurd's know that the Kurdification of the Assyrian people and land must stop. We have a right to exist as Assyrians and yes even claim our ancestral land.
Happiness in Life:
The things we go through in life do not necessarily make us happy. It is rather how we interpret these events in our life. Our choices will make us happy if they are aligned with our beliefs. If we do things which are against our own soul we will suffer greatly. Also, if we want to grow in consciousness we should have a value system that we follow. We have to have standards.
Deceiving people is never the right path in life. Also, self-deception will make us mistakenly feel justified in for example hurting others. We should never lie to ourselves and trick our mind into believing that hurting others is to our benefit because it is never to anyone’s benefit. We should always strive to be decent human beings not just because it affects others but also because the reality is our own soul is involved. In life how can any persons live with themselves when they know they have wronged so many?
I also believe in protecting our mind and soul from those who might try to trick and mislead us. We must create for ourselves a community of trustworthy folks who will be there for us when we need them, rather than the type of individuals who will only be around us when they need us. Even if this means that our circle of friends will be smaller. It is better to have a handful of close friends who will be there for each other through thick and thin, than having many “friends” that we cannot count on. My grandfather Yousif used to say that a few great friends in life are all we need and more than a few is too many.
If we want to make a change in life and get to a higher level of consciousness we have to take responsibility for our actions. We must be honest with ourselves. When we want to change we have to accept the person we are at the present time and then go from there. Even if we are not completely happy with who we are we can always change.
While growing as human beings we make a lot of choices. Some we are happy with but other times we do things which we cannot even understand why we did them. We have to come to terms with this and realize that no one is perfect. This is all part of developing our soul and part of growth. We should treat ourselves with empathy when we are trying to change and mature. Be aware and think about what you want in life and then go in that direction. Write yourself a letter and see what it is that your soul will communicate on paper through pen. You might be surprised. Be proud of your voyage in this life. To continue to grow in consciousness we have to find out what it is that we believe and our reality about this world and the universe. If we want to change we have to change the way we think as well.
Abraham Maslow’s Humanistic Psychology:
Fulfilling what we could be is part of a psychological term called self-actualization. There are many self-actualized people on Earth today and some have reached a very high level of perception, awareness, and mindfulness. These are people who are thriving and truly alive. A psychologist named Abraham Maslow contributed much to this topic.
As a young man Abraham Maslow saw himself as being unlike others. He felt inferior. He was self-conscious of his small physique and large nose! He began reading books to compensate for his lack of confidence. Maslow believed that there are twelve characteristics which define those who are self-actualized. According to David Tze they are the following:
1) Self-actualized people embrace the unknown and the ambiguous.
2) They accept themselves, together with all their flaws.
3) They prioritize and enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
4) While they are inherently unconventional, they do not seek to shock or disturb. Unlike the average rebel…
5) They are motivated by growth, not by the satisfaction of needs.
6) Self-actualized people have purpose.
7) They are not troubled by the small things. Instead, they focus on the bigger picture.
8) Self-actualized people are grateful. They do not take their blessings for granted, and by doing so, maintain a fresh sense of wonder towards the universe.
9) They share deep relationships with a few, but also feel identification and affection towards the entire human race.
10) Self-actualized people are humble.
11) Self-actualized people resist enculturation. They do not allow themselves to be passively moulded by culture — they deliberate and make their own decisions, selecting what they see as good, and rejecting what they see as bad. They neither accept all, like a sheep, nor reject all, like the average rebel.
12) Despite all this, self-actualized people are not perfect .
This description might make us believe that self-actualized people are the ultimate human beings, but perhaps self-actualization is one of the steps on the way to continue to raise our consciousness. The higher our mindfulness and wakefulness in regards to ourselves and others the higher our awareness. We must continue to be enthusiastic about reaching our highest potential. Being spiritual and realising that various faiths can lead to us to God is important factor in developing further. Did you know that God does not have just “male characteristics” but there is also such a being in the universe called Mother Goddess?
The Ascended Masters:
People who are not selfish feel a duty to the human race, our planet Earth, and even the universe. The Aetherious society website believes the following:
“On Earth we reincarnate in order to learn karmic lessons and thereby evolve spiritually. When we have mastered the cycle of reincarnation, we have a choice – to start a new cycle of experience on a more advanced planet, or to remain on Earth as Ascended Masters in order to help the rest of humankind. A person as advanced as this will make their choice according to what they know to be the right thing to do, not according to their own personal likes and dislikes” .
We do not always know who we are from the start of our life and we are only finding out as we are growing in consciousness. Reading various books and learning at many websites on the Internet can help us. We can sense the truth in what many spiritual people are saying. Even Jesus said that truth can be distinguished and that there are people who when reading his words or hearing them in their soul will know that what he said was and is true and that he said it. The truth cannot always be what the mainstream media is propagandising, or even what we learn in school or church. We have to continue to search and sift truth from false beliefs in this life and in this way gain more understanding.
In conclusion, we have discussed and considered various thoughts on the subject of how to develop our own psychology. I studied psychology in university because when I was younger people always asked for my advice. I continually gave them my honest heartfelt opinion on various subjects from my understanding at that time. I had a great desire to help others. Making the world a better place was very important to me and it still is. Also, I wanted to understand myself and discover my own soul. For these reasons I have also written this article. I have shared this information with you from my level of understanding now. The issues I have conferred were short descriptions on how I believe human beings can get on the path of higher levels of consciousness and in this way connect with the beautiful and brilliantness of our own souls and hence eventually be able to connect to the universe.
